Global Grant: Methodology to Increase the Income of Small Businesses

Introduction

This is a project for Rotary Club of Jundiaí Serra do Japy in partnership with Sebrae and Crédito SolidárioÃ’â‚€"Banco do Povo, aiming to develop methodologies and strategies for the sustainable growth of small and family businesses. The developed methodology will be offered as an easily accessible manual for small entrepreneurs.

In our region, approximately 16,000 small businesses open annually, and around 8,000 are close at the same time, a failure rate of 50%. Most of these businesses are family-owned and, in most cases, represent the only source of income.

When these businesses close, problems arise, such as an increase in the local default rate, increased poverty, increased government spending on social projects, and local supply problems. In the peripheries and communities, small businesses are very important source of supply for these populations.

We are going to do this project with Sebrae.

Sebrae is a national wide institution committed to the sustainable development of small businesses, acts as an agent of transformation that offers knowledge, qualified guidance, and encouragement to entrepreneurship. The purpose of this institution is to strengthen the competitiveness and productivity of micro and small businesses, expanding their management and innovation capabilities.

In this context, the courses offered by Sebrae play an essential role in providing entrepreneurs with practical, up-to-date content aligned with the real demands of the market. By developing skills in management, finance, marketing, innovation, customer service, and other strategic areas, these courses significantly expand the ability of small businesses to compete, grow, and remain sustainable, contributing to the professionalization and strengthening of the entrepreneurial ecosystem.

The methodology to be developed in this project aims to assist the development of small businesses in all their phases, from birth to maturity, through continuous monitoring and data collection from project participants.

The project will support the development of 30 local businesses for a period of one year. During this time, in addition to assisting and guiding the development of these companies, the data collected will be analyzed and used as a survival manual for new local businesses, but now with an analysis of the complete business cycle, from inception to growth and sustainability.

The main causes of the closure of these businesses are:

- Lack of a business plan

- Inadequate financial management

- Incorrect calculation of costs and margins of products and services

- Lack of technical knowledge and business management skills

- High interest rates

- Lack of credit and default rates

- High competition

- Changing consumer habits

- Lack of business management

Project Description

The project will benefit and support 30 small businesses for 1 year, offering management training and specialized consulting to participating companies.

The training will empower these companies in finance, sales, marketing, and entrepreneurship; if necessary, we may also offer technical training.

After the technical training, Sebrae consultants will accompany these companies in the development of business plans, cost and profit analysis, marketing policy, and social media outreach. In addition, accounting data will be analyzed to verify the company's progress, and suggestions for business improvement will be proposed.

The entrepreneurs participating in the project will be chosen by Sebrae and approved by the members of the Rotary Club of Jundiaí Serra do Japy.

Participating entrepreneurs must agree to the project rules, as well as participate in the proposed courses, present the details of their business for analysis, and participate in individual consulting meetings as proposed by Sebrae.

In addition, project participants will have easier access to productive credit through Crédito Solidário - Banco do Povo.
