Jayamangaltar is a rural community where more than 100 households (approximately 520 people) face a chronic shortage of safe and reliable drinking water. Community assessments and consultations have identified that families, particularly women and girls, spend several hours each day walking long distances to collect water from unreliable and often unsafe sources. This daily burden limits educational opportunities, reduces productivity, increases physical hardship, and exposes residents to waterborne diseases and poor sanitation conditions.
Access to clean water is not only a health issue but also a matter of dignity and social equity. Women bear the greatest responsibility for water collection, carrying heavy loads over difficult terrain while managing household duties. The lack of a nearby water supply continues to hinder the communityâââšâ‚€Ã¢âžÂ¢s overall development and well-being.
The Jayamangaltar Drinking Water Project will address this critical need by constructing a water intake system and installing approximately 3 kilometers of transmission pipeline connecting the water source to the central collection tank. The project will establish a reliable and sustainable water supply system that will provide safe drinking water directly to the community.
Upon completion, the project will:
1.Provide access to clean and safe drinking water for 520 beneficiaries.
2.Reduce the incidence of waterborne diseases.
3.Improve household hygiene and sanitation practices.
4.Significantly reduce the time and physical burden of water collection, particularly for women and girls.
5.Enhance quality of life, productivity, and educational opportunities within the community.
Project funds will be utilized for:
1.Construction of the water intake structure.
2.Procurement and installation of approximately 3 kilometers of HDPE pipeline.
3.Construction and improvement of collection and distribution infrastructure.
4.Transportation of materials to the project site.
5.Skilled labor, technical supervision, and quality assurance.
6.Community training on system operation, maintenance, and water safety practices.
Members of the Rotary Club will actively participate throughout the project cycle by:
1.Conducting site visits and project monitoring.
2.Coordinating with local authorities and community user groups.
3.Assisting in procurement oversight and financial accountability.
4.Participating in project implementation activities and beneficiary engagement.
5.Organizing community awareness programs on sanitation and water conservation.
6.Monitoring project outcomes and ensuring long-term sustainability.
A local Water User Committee will be strengthened and trained to manage the system, collect maintenance contributions, and oversee routine repairs. Community ownership and participation throughout implementation will ensure the long-term sustainability of the water supply system and continued benefits for future generations.
This project represents a life-changing investment in health, dignity, and opportunity, transforming access to clean water for the people of Jayamangaltar while relieving the disproportionate burden carried by women and girls every day.
