Patrocinio, 82,471 inhabitants. Among them, there are 300 people making their lives by selecting, and selling solid waste for recycling. Nowadays they work in circumstances of extreme vulnerability due to precarious sanitation conditions of their workplace. They spend 8 to 10 hour on the city garbage deposits running all kind of risks to get everything they could put up for sale to specialized industries. Although the risk is to right their income is variable and unsure.
It is necessary to organize, to capacitate and to coach this community. For that reason Rotary Club Brumado dos Pavoes in partnership with City Hall, and a non governmental organization, is developing a project to use this community current aptitude, improve it, and increase their professional possibilities and life quality level. The project aims to collect used vegetable oil (domestic) and transform it into Biodiesel and other product such as soap.
This would ensure income for every participant with dignity and a safe place for them to work. Additionally it would withdrawal used vegetable oil from environment since nowadays it is released in the ordinary sewer contaminating water resources.
