Engineers are responsible for providing fundamental services in the delivery of infrastructure that have become necessary for the global functioning of the modern world. As a student in the Engineering for Sustainable Design (ESD) Program at the University of Cambridge, I will learn to aid infrastructure in a sustainable and responsible manner. One of The Rotary Foundations goals is to build the capacity of community networks to support economic development in impoverished areas. Economic development requires adequate infrastructure, to include electricity, water, and transportation. The ESD program at Cambridge will provide me with the knowledge and experience I will need in order to implement sustainable solutions to complex and interrelated infrastructure problems that often entangle communities in poverty.
