Project Description Region: South America Country: Chile Location: Concepción Total Budget: $57,000 Area of Focus: Community economic development Rotary Club Concepción Norte - Project Nº 1 Concepción Fire Station Nº 1 - Firemen suits and helmets. In Chile, the Fire Department is a volunteer based institution, in which its members do not get paid (do not receive a salary) and their funds are obtained through donations. This project Involves the acquisition of 40 firemen suits and 40 helmets, all manufactured to meet both US and Chile regulation in the subject. Concepción is the second largest city in Chile, and was the most devastated area in the country during the February 27th, 2010 earthquake and subsequent tsunami. Fire Station Nº 1 is the oldest Fire Station in town, and is capable of handling all type of emergencies, among them chemical fires. Its facilities and equipment suffered severe damage during last year's earthquake. To acquire this gear we need to raise funds in the amount of $ 57,000 (US dollars). We are writing to your Rotary Club to ask, if possible, for a contribution of at least one third of this amount. The Concepción community will be enormously grateful. Thanks for your attention.
