Revelations to Genesis
"Clean Water to the Masses"
In the beginning there was the Genesis "Ameligan" Project bringing water to a very isolated island located in the township of Pontevedra here in the Philippines. This project reached out and touched 1500+lives and changed them forever. The Genesis" Ameligan" Project has grown from the initial five water stations, to now six and over 40 homes connected to water!
We want to take this project and replicate it throughout the whole of Pontevedra therefore "REVELATIONS TO GENESIS". In doing this project we will bring a clean source of drinking water to whole water system in Pondevedra impacting over 40,000 men, women and children. In the scope of this project we will be digging a new water source for all of Pontevedra. During the past few years the land adjoining the old water source for the township was sold and the new owners planted sugar cane around the town's water supply. Chemicals applied to the sugar cane and silting due to the trees being cut for the sugar cane have contaminated the water supply, now no one in the township of Pontevedra has water clean enough to drink. They rely on Rainwater and Bottle water for daily consumption. As Rotarian's we saw the need and are now taking steps to correct this LARGE problem! When this project is completed we will have helped over 9,470 households or 40,000 fellow residents of mother earth. This number also includes 17,223 children under the age of 14. This project will be a lasting one and one that will serve the residents of Pontevedra for many, many years to come.
The ROTARY CLUB OF METRO ROXAS will over see this project and insure its sustainability by making followup visits throughout the years. We will have a MOA signed with the Pontevedra Water District and they will be responsible for upkeep and maintenance.
This project will cost P 1,773,170.00 Pesos (pesos) or converted to US Dollars at exchange rate 41 to 1 =$43,248.00 dollars. But WHAT an impact it will have on so many lives forever! There are times when there is no rain for up to 2 months during dry season. Water Borne Diseases due to drinking rainwater and other contaminated water sources are higher than normal so the need is URGENT for the residents of Pontevedra to have a clean water source. Rotary has the answer to their needs and we have the obligation as Rotarian's to reach out and serve where the need is great. INTERNATIONAL PARTNERS are needed for this project and we can't do it alone! Please help!!
