Project Description

Region: North America

Country: USA

Location: San Diego

Total Budget: $32,000

Area of Focus: Disease prevention and treatment

With increasing Rotary and worldwide emphasis on global health, there is a serious need for more educated professionals in this area to guide and direct global health initiatives. This grant will be to fund a scholar for one year in the PhD program at San Diego State University studying global health, specifically disease prevention and treatment, which is one of TRF's areas of focus. The total amount will be $32,000. These funds will be used to cover living expenses for the scholar. This scholar will be in San Diego and can participate in Rotary events and interact with clubs and Rotarians. The head of the department is Dr. Tom Novotny and is willing to come speak to Rotary Clubs as well.

Note: as of July 1, 2015 there is a 5% additional support fee for cash contributions. This fee does not appear in the financials above because it does not apply if the funds are sent directly to the project account (without going through TRF, and therefore without Paul Harris credit). Clubs sending their cash contribution to TRF must be aware they will have to send an additional 5%.
