Project Description

Region: Asia

Country: India

Location: Chandigarh

Total Budget: $56,000

Area of Focus: Water, sanitation and hygiene

Lack of toilets and other proper sanitation facilities in rural schools deters many students from attending the School especially Girls when they reach stage of puberty. Also lack of proper sanitation creates major health risks, raising the threat of potentially fatal illnesses such as typhoid and malaria.

World Bank study estimates that through premature deaths, especially of young children, Asia's third-largest economy loses 53.8 billion dollars or 6.4% of its gross domestic product through hygiene-related illnesses, lost productivity and other factors stemming from poor sanitation, according to World Bank.

We plan to construct toilet blocks in such schools at least at seven locations.
