Preamble: - University of Utah, School of Public Health, Saltlake City USA, MBCT a local NGO and PGIMER a leading Medical Research Institute & Hospital in the region jointly carried out a detailed needs assessment survey to find that 84% of households were drinking cooking etc with contaminated water. Water supply is intermittent and has to be stored in homes. Families use open container and re contaminate the stored clean water. Children and others from BPL households are affected.
Need: - Need is to provide a 50 liters sealed container to households living below the poverty line ( BPL) to enable them to have contamination free water to be used for drinking & cooking. This is so essential for children and others for good health. Currently water is stored in all types of open second hand chemical & oil containers.
Sustainability: - The container being provided is sturdy and will last many years. WaSH training is also being provided to educate and bring about awareness for the long term. WaSH committees are formed in these 9 villages.
Partner in Project: - Rotary Club Chandigarh is looking for an International Rotary Club who is interested in partnering with our club to put in an application under the Global Grant Scheme
