The Rotary Club of Esteban Echeverria together with the Municipal Polyclinic Sofía Terreno Santamarina and the Department of Health of the Municipality, are carrying out a project which we have named "Primary Attention". This project has been designed to cover accidents occurring in the public ways and infectious diseases found in "Peripheral Areas". There is a Sanitary Unit whose building has been expanded in order to cover the medical requirements of these economically deprived people coming from an overly crowded neighborhood. Nevertheless the sheer number of these people means that many of them are referred to the Sofía Terreno de Santamarina Polyclínic located 10 Kms. away which means that many of the inhabitants of these neighborhoods do not receive the necessary attention due to their economic situation.
Today, this Sanitary Unit has an Ambulance Service, emergency ward 24 hours a day and ample installations WITHOUT EQUIPMENT, therefore the attention that can be rendered is totally limited.
With the necessary or required equipment, this Sanitary Unit could grant the following Services:
- Radiology
- Laboratory
Radiology: with X-Ray equipment serving as an auxiliary diagnosis, the street accidents could be covered. In addition other pathologies could also be diagnosed with the required follow-up.
Laboratory: The laboratory is also important for attending accident cases and has the added value of being an indispensable factor in controlling and attending pregnancy cases.
By having these elements, the Sanitary Unit would enhance its operative capacity and would be the first Unit in the District with a hospitalization capability.
