Project Description Region: Asia Country: India Location: D3030 Total Budget: $30,460 Areas of Focus: Basic education and literacy, Community economic development All villages do not have school for girls in our Area Girls have to walk to and from school, as much as four to even ten kilometers. They walk for hours daily (as much as 2 hours in many cases). They walk even if it is raining or with a very hot sun beating at their backs. This discourages them from going to school & hence there is high dropout rate of girls in rural parts through out India. This project intends to provide bicycles to 560 high school students who live very far from their school. These students come from very poor families and their parents cannot provide for their basic needs in school. The bicycles will shorten the travel time to and from the school leaving them more time to study and do household chores. The project can be completed in three (3) months - from the purchase of the bicycles to the distribution to all students.
