Khanyisa caters for children and young adults with learning difficulties, that cannot be met through remedial education alone.
They undertake to teach the children according to their age and stage of development based on the Waldorf educational principles of Dr Rudolf Steiner. Children progress at their own pace and level in literacy and numeracy. Emphasis is placed on academic as well as practical and life skills.
In addition:-
• to nurture the potential gifts and innate intelligence; and develop life skills of the growing person who cannot do so in mainstream education.
• to provide a safe and healing space of learning and therapy through which human worth and dignity can be realised.
• to work in an environment which affirms and supports the child, parents, teachers and therapists.
The school wishes to establish and teach the children about vegatable growing to enable them to become sustainable at a later stage.
There is also one particular student in dire need of school fees.
Ismaa-eel was adopted by the Ebrahim family as a baby. He had been found abandoned in a field, only a few days old. When he was four he started having fits and it was apparent that he had a neurological problem. He had growths on his brain that were removed. Over the years he has undergone approximately 5 extensive surgeries to the brain, removing further growths. He has slurred speech, so has undergone much speech therapy, as well as physiotherapy. He walks with a limp, is partially blind in his right eye. His right hand is permanently closed into a fist and he also suffers from weakness of his whole right side.
Ismaa-eel is a sociable, friendly boy and has good self-esteem. He enjoys running around despite his limp. He participates in all class movement, especially the skipping, and never lets his disability get in his way of participating. He also likes soccer, racing cars and the sea.
This project includes both aspects.
I have just spent 5 weeks in the USA visiting clubs and making presentations. If you would like to know more, please contact me.
