Today, education is considered as an important factor in the process of development, advancement in education status is considered as an important development itself.North Eastern Region is educationally one of the least developed regions of India. The literacy rate of the region is less than the national average. Although development in education system has taken place in the region but it shows more of quantitative rather than qualitative. Tezpur is one of the most important, growing and peaceful city of Assam. Due to lack of quality Higher secondary school in the entire Northern assam there is need for a good quality school at Tezpur which can give quality education to children from econonically backward section at affordable cost. The affluent spend money on their childern and get quality education at good schools but children who cannot afford lack quality education and they are the major chunck in a society. Vivekananda Kendra Shiksha Prasar Vibhag is trying to narrow the gap by providing quality education at 52 Vivekanda Kendra schools they are running successfully in the entire North Eastern Region at affordable cost. The Kendra is also setting up a High Secondary school (Class Nursery to XII) at Tezpur.They have purchased 5 acres of land (216000 sqft).The construction of phase I is under progress which include 12 classrooms, Computer lab, Audio visual lab, children park, toilets, amphitheatre at a cost of around Rs.15 million (US $ 260000 approx)and will be completed by December 2014. The entire constuction work is undertaken through Donation from well wishers. Good faculty, Teaching values,Sports, community service,Educational Excursions, Leadership Training, Art & Crafts, Music, Yoga etc will make this school one of the best schools within the reach of common people, without any discrimination on the basis of caste, creed or religion. Rotary,s one of the ares of focus is Basic Education and literacy where Rotary International want to ensure that Children have access to quality basic education. Our club is also working on this lines and found that associating ourself with Vivekanda Kendra School will help promote the objects Of RI of supporting large, sustainable projects with measurable impacts.Our club has decided to go ahead with a Global grant project of providing the required infrastructure to the school for PhaseI. We have prepared the list of items to be provided to the school. The same is listed below:
1. Desk and Benches made of steel frame
with laminated Boards for 12 classroms - 240 sets @Rs. 7000.00 per set - 16,80,000.00
2. Table with Drawers and chair for
use of Teachers in classrom and
teachers room - 24 Nos @Rs. 8000.00 each - 1,92,000.00
3. Almirah for classroms and Teachers
room - 20 Nos @Rs.10000.00 each - 2,00,000.00
