Project Description

Region: Africa

Country: Uganda

Location: Kitgum

Total Budget: $116,152

Areas of Focus: Disease prevention and treatment, Water, sanitation and hygiene, Maternal and child health

RC Kitgum is currently implementing a Maternal and Child heath project (25670) in collaboration with RC Mt. Airy USA. During an assessment that was conducted recently, we learnt that in all the 12 health facilities there is no access to clean and safe drinking water yet all the facilities the project is operating in has maternity unit that requires running water. The nurses and the mothers who come to access services within the hospital has to trek 1-3km to access water from the community, hence when this project is supported will be able to promote hygiene in the hospital, reduce child mortality, reduce chances of Transmission of HIV from Mother to child and as well save nurses time running to fetch water but concentrate in giving service to the patients.
