The Amadeus Foundation is a social, non-profit organization dedicated to work with kids and youngsters in more than 30 very poor communities in the city of Medellin, Colombia; for over 20 years bringing musical education and social support in these poor communities of the city where violence is part of their daily living. The Foundation was created 11 years ago to continue the social work of the Amadeus Organization that started this work in 1,988.
A first generation of Orchestras and Choirs has been adopted by the city and today, totally independently the Foundation is starting all over again with new students, a second generation providing this way assistance and support to more kids in many more communities. At this time over 500 kids and youngsters are attended and so far 2 orchestras and 2 choirs have been created. The kids do not have the financial means to attend the classes and rehearsals, nor does the Foundation receive any support from the government at this time.
In order to facilitate the development, interpretation and correct performance of the Orchestra it is necessary to include a few instruments that are rare and difficult to find, also expensive. This will bring the Orchestra to a higher level and able to compete internationally. This enhances the work and performance of the kids and the Orchestra and allows for this work to be projected outside to the international audiences in order to get the support and assistance they need.
It is important to mention that the kids do not have their own instrument; these are provided by the Foundation so the kids can practice in their homes, value their involvement in this Program and develop a sense of belonging and commitment.
In addition, this calls for some basic office equipment, computers and communications.
The Medellín Nutibara Rotary Club ensures that all the money will go towards the purchase of instruments needed by children and young people who want to change their future and have no opportunity in the short term
