A Project for Palliative Home Care In Palakuzha & Thirumarady Panchayaths

Introduction

Palliative care for cancer patients and other Geriatric patients are a necessity now a day. In India Parental attachment is more and no one wishes to send their aged parents to Palliative centers for Geriatric Care. At the same time they are not financially well for arranging medical attention at home.

In view of the above, our local administration (Gramapanchayath) has employed two home nurses each for palliative care. These home Nurses along with a Health Inspector, visit the houses of these patients and will do the nursing care and medical treatment, to the patients, till their natural death.

The funds allotted by the local bodies are hardly adequate for the medicines and salary of the Home nurses. Since the houses of poor people are very remote and far, they have to hire vehicles, the patients are to be provided with water beds, urinary catheters and bags.

Project Proposal

We propose a project for providing

1.Necessary equipments, such as water beds, urinary catheters and bags, autoclaves, wheel chairs, commode stool, walking sticks, medicating kits etc for 200 patients in Two Gramapanchayaths (Palakuzha & Thirumarady) in our locality.

2.A Scooter each for the home nurses in two Gramapanchayaths for regular attention of the patients.

3 A multipurpose vehicle for the movement of medical team, with medicines and other equipments, and also serve as an ambulance service for bringing the patients to the Primary health centers and back, which will be available in alternate days in each Gramapanchayath.

The project will be benefited to 200 poor families.

The Vehicles & Equipments will be given to the local apex body, the Block Panchayath, and they agreed to employ and maintain a driver for the vehicle, and will take care of the recurring expenses.

The Rotary Club and the Rotarians will coordinate with the Primary Health Centers in executing the project
