Wunlang is a rural village in South Sudan - one of the poorest places in the world. It is located in Aweil East County, Northern Bahr el Ghazal state. There are 10 states in South Sudan. Aweil East is one of 5 counties in the state.
In 2011 Wunlang completed the construction of their village health center with support from the local community and their NGO partner. The health facility consists of a single-story building with 6 rooms totaling about 2900 sq. ft. of floor space. Although the space is used by the local health workers, the rooms are unfurnished, and people sit on the floor. The village is now trying to acquire the furniture, medical equipment, and supplies they need to make the clinic fully operational and extend services in the community. A well-equipped PHCC will help transform Wunlang into a health care hub for the area - improving access to and quality of care for the whole region.
With this project we will partner with IMEC to provide medical equipment and supplies to a rural village health center in South Sudan, including full exam suites, maternity and delivery care, laboratory and diagnostic services, procedure room and pharmacy services. IMEC serves health centers and hospitals in the developing world and has partnered with Rotary International for several projects in the past.
There are approximately 500 families in Wunlang village. With an average household size of 8, we estimate direct beneficiaries in the village to be about 4000 consisting of 500 adult males, 500 adult females, and 3000 children. Gender distribution is about 50-50 males to females.
