It is estimated that India has about 10 million disabled persons most of whom are poor and coming from rural backgrounds where even basic prosthetic facilities are simply not available. Even though there are Indian manufacturers of prosthesis, the artificial limbs they produce are not of high quality. It is in this context that the Government of India has encouraged world leaders like Otto Bock of Germany and from other countries like USA, UK to open their establishments in India to provide their state-of-the-art artificial limbs and supportive devices to patients in India.
Properly fabricated prosthetic devices (artificial limbs) are necessary for the physical, social and vocational rehabilitation of disabled persons.
Our club has sponsored an RCC consisting of members who are all physically challenged, perhaps the only one of its kind in the Rotary world.
Our project is to fit deserving patients identified with help of our RCC from Chandigarh and adjoining areas with state-of-the-art prosthetics under a Global Grant.
