Areas of Focus: Disease prevention and treatment, Water, sanitation and hygiene
Qortada is a village of 80 houses that were destroyed during the Lebanese war 1975-1990.
In order to help the local population return to their houses, RC Beirut Cedars would like to install solar water heaters to reduce the economic incidence of the high cost of energy.
This will be the only complete village with a solar heating system in Lebanon. It will be the first eco-friendly village in Lebanon.
the villagers were cutting trees to get wood for heating the water.the solar panels will save the environment and protect the forest.
Hot water will fight disease and will offer sanitation and hygiene to the whole village.
As for its sustainability,a maintenance agreement between the municipality and the inhabitants, will insure a yearly check up of the equipment. Two people from the village will be trained by the installer to maintain and repair the solar panels. The members of RC Beirut Cedars and the municipality will follow up on the matter.
Being on an international road, the Rotary sign that we intend to post at the entrance of the village, stating our achievements will give us good exposure, and enhance the image of Rotary.
It will benefit the whole village around 450 persons.
