Rotary Club Beirut Cedars would like to help school the Syrian Refugees in Lebanon
More than two years after the beginning of the war in Syria, Lebanon is currently sheltering more than 2,000,000 Syrian refugees according to the estimates of the Lebanese government. The number of refugees entering Lebanon is growing at a very fast rate. Many are living in very poor conditions.Young refugees are especially affected by the current situation, specifically with regard to their limited access to education.
According to the office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), during the last academic year only 30,000 of the estimated 120,000 school-age refugee children (registered) attended school.
By supporting this grant, RC Beirut-Cedars will be providing an opportunity to Syrian refugees students to reinforce their educational level and to obtain the chance to stay in schools instead of becoming dropouts. It will provide books and material to these poor students. We will be able to reach out for 1,000 of these students and equip them with these critical items. This benefit will not be limited to these 1,000 only since this support is sustainable because during the next year these books can be handed over to their peers while they take the books of the students of the grade above. Each year this cost will be then wavered from the students with this intervention. This grant will also help reduce the tension between Syrians and Lebanese youth by encouraging them to attend constructive activities together.
Club members will help in buying the materials needed for the students and following up on their usage.
