Prosthesis for the Handicapped - World Fund Project Profile
It is estimated that India has about 100 million disabled persons most of whom are poor and coming from rural backgrounds where even basic prosthetic facilities are simply not available. Even though there are Indian manufacturers of prosthesis, the artificial limbs they produce are not of high quality. It is in this context that the Government of India has encouraged world leaders like Otto Bock of Germany and Endolite of UK to open their establishments in India to provide their state-of-the-art prosthesis to patients in India.
Properly fabricated prosthetic devices are necessary for the physical, social and vocational rehabilitation of disabled persons.
Our club has sponsored an RCC consisting of members who are all physically challenged, perhaps the only one of its kind in the Rotary world.
Our project is to identify deserving patients from Chandigarh and adjoining areas with the help of this RCC and fit them with state-of-the-art prosthetics under a global grant.
Our project is to serve over 50 beneficiaries with prosthesis and other aids as detailed below:
