Areas of Focus: Water, sanitation and hygiene, Community economic development
Ottapalam is a small township in palakkad dist,Kerala state,India. The club aims to bring about a change in the hygiene status of this place by constructing E-Toilets in and around Ottapalam especially along the state highway passing through Ottapalam and also in a few government girls schools,to mitigate their problems. We also aim to provide a source of lively hood, for the poor and needy, for maintaining the toilets, located at strategic places.Their duties would be to issue tokens to users and fill up the over head water tanks regularly.land would be leased from the government.Amount collected from the toilets would be used to pay the caretaker, electricity & water bills.there would be other maintenance charges.the life of this toilet is 7 years. This would be a path breaking project for this district, which would be an example to be emulated by the state of kerala and enhance the image of Rotary, for years to come. The other spin offs of this project is that it would increase the per ca pita of this region due to influx of tourist to rural areas, bring awareness to the general public on health and hygiene and also enable men and women to ease themselves when on the move,by using the E-Toilets placed strategically along the highway, rather than relieving themselves in the open.
