Maraisadanam is a charitable institution for rehabilitating mentally challenged persons wandering in the streets. Mariasadanam provides free food, medicine and shelter to these persons. Presently the institute looks after roughly 310 people, who are in various states of mental illness. These include 10 children of the inmates. Most of these children were conceived as a result of the sexual exploitation of these mentally challenged women, while wandering in the streets day and night without any help. Mariasadanam looks after these children in a separate wing and arranges to send them to school. Though Mariasadanam is providing a wonderful service to the community, facilities in this institute is very poor because of financial constraints. The facilities available at present are sufficient to maintain only half the number of inmates.
RC Pala decided to improve facilities in this centre, by providing a proper kitchen equipped for large scale cooking, solar energy panels for reducing fuel costs and laundry equipments to improve general hygiene. Provide bread making unit and paper plate manufacturing unit to make Mariasadanam sustainable by generating some income. This will also provide vocational training, which will be helpful in the rehabilitation of the inmates.
Funds will be used for providing kitchen equipments, Solar energy system, laundry equipment, bread making unit and paper plate manufacturing unit. Expect to complete the project by end of May 2014
RC Pala is constructing the kitchen block estimated to be at USD 10000 by member contributions.
For a more meaningful and permanent assistance to this Institute, we need to garner more resources by the GLOBAL GRANT. We are searching for international partners in this venture to provide a significant service to our community.
Total project expected by global grant USD 38550.00
