In India, majority of the population does not have access to sanitary toilets and are forced to go to open field for nature's call. This is an unhealthy practice which leads to unhygienic environment and infectious diseases. Spread of Polio virus is one such consequence of lack of sanitary toilets. It is also unsafe, especially for women as they have to face nolestation , harassment etc. at times.
The proposed project, in which 200 ladies toilets are planned, in 40 different villages of Eastern Uttar Pradesh in North India, is going to benefit the village women in long way both in terms of safety and sanitation.
Priority will be given to girls schools and the villages where, at present, there are no toilets at all.
The total project budget is USD 77000 where 200 toilets are planned at USD 385 per unit.
Total 40 clubs of District 3120 will be identified wherein each club will be given responsibility to construct and oversee the maintenance of five toilets in the village located within or nearest to their vicinity.
