The rural belt of District 3120 is suffering with scarcity of resources, especially water. The village women, whether young or old, need to walk far off to fetch water from the nearest pond or well. While accessing drinking water continues to be a problem, assuring that it is safe is a challenge in itself. The health issues related to poor water quality are enormous and lead to many diseased like Malaria, Dengue etc.
It is proposed to install 150 hand pumps to solve this problem as safe & clean water supply will be assured through that. Also, villagers will not have to walk miles to fetch clean water. All 150 hand pumps are proposed to be installed within 9 months from the date of project commencement.
The total proposed budget for this project will be USD 45000 as it will cost USD 300 for purchase, installation and maintenance of each hand pump.
Members from 30 clubs of RI District 3120 will be given the responsibility to install the five hand pumps per club and train the villagers about the usage and minor repairs of the hand pumps.
After the installation, the villagers will be handed over the responsibility to look after the pump to ensure that the hand pump does not get misused or damaged, no water clogging takes place and ensure proper after care is taken. The villagers will be given training to repair minor faults in the hand pump assembly.
