In East and Central U.P., North India, majority of the population is living in rural belts where no power or bare mimimum power supply (3 to 4 hrs a day). This adversely effects the life of villagers in more than one way. Children are not able to study in the evenings, women are not able to cook food properly and men fail to travel from one place to another to carry out their work. This also makes the environment extremely unsafe and susceptible to thefts/burglaries.
To make the life of villagers safe and comfortable, it is proposed to provide 3000 solar lanterns in areas where there are major electricity related problems. The project is unique because not only does it aid the safety and comfort in rural areas, it also promotes energy preservation as solar technology is being used.
The three thousand lanterns will cost USD 23 each and the total project cost will go to USD 69000. It is scheduled that the project will be completed within three months from the date of commencement.
Members from RID 3120 will distribute and propagate the usages of solar lanterns to 14 identified villages where the lanterns are proposed to be distributed. They will also propagate the environmental benefits of non conventional energy resources.
