In Barranquilla, Colombia, the criminal capacity of adolescents and even children who make small clans has become an attraction for the leaders of criminal gangs (BACRIM) who are recruiting these young people by offering salaries of U$ 445.oo ($ 800,000 Colombian pesos) per month.
There are thousands of young people who are part of gangs, a situation that forces us to think about the role of public and private organizations that are committed to sustainable social development of the youth population of the city.
Therefore ROTARY DRUMS FOR PEACE, a foundation with 10 years of experience in working with vulnerable communities of Barranquilla, has developed this program of prevention of irregular groups recruitment and untying of these same groups; all of these accomplished through the formation of Councils and the cultural and musical education aimed at children and young people in areas with a high psychosocial risk.
The educational and musical program has a goal and a plan structured by educational cycles that are intended to provide a high level of development of personal and social skills that will guide the participants to remain in the regular educational system by promoting and giving guidance to a life project based on legality, honesty and healthy living.
We count with the support of the PEP Corporation, Technical Cooperation Alliance and Houses of the Youth, In order to have a place to practice. Also we will use other vulnerable neighborhoods to invite kids from other communities.
This Project requires the provision of tools and musical instruments to perform activities as the proper training from hands of teachers who will incentive this program for peace.
DRUMS FOR PEACE will benefit these children by changing their role as agents of social change; it will make them self-confident who will be able to speak in public and able to perform in front of an audience; Trained in their own folk rhythms of the Caribbean Region and identified with a musical instrument.
The project has a cost of US 50.000, which will be allocated in full to the purchase of tools, instruments and the payment of teachers to instruct and guide the affected population.
