BRIEF WRITE UP ON PROPOSED KIDNEY DIALYSIS CENTRE TO BE SET UP AT PALGHAR, DIST. THANE, MAHARASHTRA, INDIA

1.PURPOSE OF THE PROJECT:

To provide substantially subsidized Hemodialysis facilities to economically strapped population as there is no Dialysis Centre in and around the area.

2.NEED OF THE COMMUNITY:

Palghar taluka does not have tertiary care facilities and services of super-specialists. Emergency care facilities available in a limited manner in some of the private hospitals which is beyond the financial means of a majority of patients. It is observed that the area has a definite need of dialysis center in Palghar taluka & adjoining talukas as there is no single dialysis center in the surrounding area of 50 kms.

As per our market survey from Virar to Dahanu area. It has been found that many patients from Palghar-Dahanu area are under regular dialysis treatment but due to unavailability of facility they have to travel to Mumbai leading to additional costs in terms of money, efforts and time. Many lives are cut short as they cannot reach a dialysis center. There are also almost 1200 patients with diabetic and cardiac symptoms who have risk of nephrological problems which goes unattended.

We propose to fill this need with the help of Dr. M.L. Dhawale Memorial Trust's Hospital - Palghar.

3.ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

The hospital trust operates on the principle of 3 tier charge structure as per ability of the patient to pay. Hence an affording patient would have to pay the full cost. A patient from weaker class will have to pay 50% (i.e. around INR 400 - 500) and an indigent class patient may be treated at nominal charge of INR 100 or free. The concession is offered only after verification by our social worker and sanction by the director.

4.INVOLVEMENT OF DR. M.L. DHAWALE MEMORIAL TRUST'S HOSPITAL - PALGHAR

Hospital will be providing 1,440 sq.ft for the dialysis centre. Further, hospital management will also be providing infrastructure and emergency services. They will be totally responsible for administration of the dialysis center and to provide medical care to the patients. Medical responsibility of the patient lies with the hospital.
