Newborn Intensive care units (ICU), are sections within a hospital that look after newborn whose conditions are life-threatening and need constant, close monitoring and support from equipment and medication to keep normal body functions going. They have higher levels of staffing, specialist monitoring and treatment equipment only available in these areas and the staff are highly trained in caring for the most severely ill patients.

The Newborn ICU management at the University Hospital is carried out by a Rapid Action team who are specialists of ICU intervening to the Newborns and directly linked with the doctors. The Newborn ICU was designed to serve the patients from the regional hospital since being a central reference hospital. The very high running costs and fixed equipment costs small hospıtals can not open Newborn ICU by themselves therefore the Newborns patients are tranported when it is found essential to place the Newborns who do need Pediatric ICU.
