The Village "Santa Maria de los Angeles" is located in the Parish San Pablo del Lago, Otavalo County, Province of Imbabura, Republic of Ecuador. The western slopes of the Andes Mountains are near the main Pan American Highway that leads to Quito. The Rotary Club is headquartered in the City of Ibarra situated 29 km. north of Otavalo.
The work done benefits orphans and totally abandoned children infected with AIDS/HIV. At the present time there are 22 children who have come from different cities of the country. We expect to have 50 children in the near future. It is necessary to offer them appropriate and healthy nutrition; to have adequate training and to spread the knowledge about AIDS; improve the financing of the projects that support the Juvilus House. This can be done by:
1. Purchasing materials and equipment for breeding guinea-pigs (cuyes)
2. Buying equipment and accessories for breeding minor porcine species
3. Improvements, materials and equipment for the Residence House where interns and volunteers have their quarters
4. Health Education about AIDS/HIV, its transmission, prevention, maternal and infant care and healthy nutrition for persons infected with AIDS.
Members of the Rotary Club will visit frequently the Village to make sure about the right development of the project.
