Project Description

Region: Asia

Country: Nepal

Location: Itahari

Total Budget: $82,100

Area of Focus: Basic education and literacy

Nepal is a developing country with high gender discrepancy. Normally boys are sent to private school and girls to community school, which is considered poor in imparting quality education. On top of it, early girl child marriage is rampant in the country. similarly, poverty is the main reason for the deprivation of education especially to girl child.

Thus, we want to encourage girls to attend school at least up to class ten. For this, children need to have basic support for the purchase of school books, stationery, uniform, shoes etc. The project shall last for 3 continuous years and plans to help for 50 girls.

Note: as of July 1, 2015 there is a 5% additional support fee for cash contributions. This fee does not appear in the financials above because it does not apply if the funds are sent directly to the project account (without going through TRF, and therefore without Paul Harris credit). Clubs sending their cash contribution to TRF must be aware they will have to send an additional 5%.
