St. Innocent Orphanage seeks to add new program offerings, not currently available to improve the quality of individual care in the areas of vocational training, clean water, literacy, educational tutoring and mental health for all boys and young men.
The following activities will provide vocational training for orphanage boys regardless of their intent to attend university; (1) the on-site presence of one vocational instructor, (2) the development of a schedule of classes designed to strengthen vocational skill sets, (3) introduction and training on the safe use of hand tools, power tools, and other support equipment.
The following activities will provide potable water for St. Innocent Orphanage; (1) the repair of the 50,000 gallon cistern, (2) the purchase of an inline purification and filtration system, (3) the purchase of a reverse osmosis filtration system, (4) the installation of a water transmission system.
The following activities will improve literacy and education; (1) the on-site presence of a bi-lingual educational professional, (2) daily after school tutoring & assistance with homework and reading assignments for each boy, (3) a targeted tutoring plan for boys with challenges in a specific area of study, (4) the creation of an on-site educational library to include educational computer software.
The following activities will seek to improve the mental health of our boys; (1) the scheduling of individual and group counselling sessions as required to address challenges, (4) regular evaluations by orphanage staff to monitor/document improvements.
The District 5340 Rotary Foundation Committee approved this grant application at its October 13, 2014 meeting. They approved the matching of $10,000. DDF for this grant. The grant may now proceed to application with The Rotary Foundation.
