The Rotary Club of Kyrenia Liman, in the town of Girne (Kyrenia) in North Cyprus, is one of three clubs on the North of the Island and is part of Rotary District 2452 that spans 9 countries: Cyprus, Lebanon, Palestine, Jordan, Georgia, Armenia, Sudan, UAE and the Kingdom of Bahrain.
2013-14 has been a strong year of growth of both membership and commitment in our club, and we are looking forward to building on this basis over the coming year.
We have several small scale projects in the pipeline, but the major challenge we have taken on for this year is a big one, and we need help!
Speaking with the Head of the Girne State Hospital, we have learnt that the generosity of a bequest has enabled them to construct a 10 bed Renal Dialysis Unit. Unfortunately of the 72 Renal Dialysis patients in the Hospital catchment area many are from very poor backgrounds and must rely on often unreliable public transport from remote villages for treatment.
The Head of the Hospital has told us that the biggest difference that our Rotary Club could make to the health of these patients would be the provision of a wheelchair accessible patient transport vehicle for the dedicated use of the Dialysis Unit, to ensure that they can receive treatment and prolong their lives. Regular and scheduled Dialysis is essential to the quality of life of these patients.
Reliable transport to scheduled appointments will mean the equipment and staff at the Hospital work in the most efficient way, without valuable time lost due to missed appointments.
We are currently putting together a Rotary International Global Grant application for the provision of this wheelchair accessible vehicle, and would like to ask for the help of your Club. The preliminary estimate puts the cost of the vehicle at $50,000 USD.
Every donation we receive from International Clubs and donors will receive a 50% contribution from Rotary International.
Therefore your Club donation pledge, whatever size, will make a big difference to our goal. If your club and district are eligible for Global Grants, please consider becoming our International Partner on this application and overseeing the Grant with us via the RI website.
