The project aims at addressing the water challenges for a 59 member HIV patients group (KASAANA PEOPLE LIVING WITH HIV) Without clean water, the group members irregularly take their prescribed ARV drugs; they sometimes compromise to take any available water which puts their life at a risk of waterborne diseases.They are often unable to access community water sources or latrines because of stigma and discrimination.

A study by the PPP Team in Mubende District found that the proportion of the population accessing an improved drinking water source was only 43%. This is below the national and rural access to safe water. Average figures of 73.8% and 69.5 % respectively, ranking among the lowest in the whole country.Although patients usually recover with treatment, many will get repeat infections unless their access to safe water is improved. The assessment found that the water, sanitation and hygiene needs of home-based care clients were not met, and that safe water, sanitation and hygiene should be essential components of basic preventive care packages for home-based care clients at policy, service provision and community levels.

The proposed project will have the following objectives;

1. To improve accessibility to safe and clean water for mainly people living with HIV/AIDS and Health Facilities in Myanzi Sub-county

2. To mitigate children`s' absenteeism and drop-out from school

3. To contribute to the improvement of health condition of people living with HIV/AIDS

4. To enhance income for HIV positive people

The project duration will be 12 months; however, the start of the project is dependent on the full mobilization of the financial resources required.The project funds will be used for the following activities;

1. Community mobilization campaigns

2. Sanitation and hygiene awareness seminars

3. Construction of rain water harvesting tanks and all other supplies and equipment for the installation

4. Training Village water committees

5. Launching the installation of the water tanks

6. Printing of Information Education and Communication materials

8. Distribute water harvest tanks

9. Distribute Hand washing containers

The club members will come in by way of training,monitoring and supervision of works.

This fee does not appear in the financials above because it does not apply if the funds are sent directly to the project account (without going through TRF, and therefore without Paul Harris credit). Clubs sending their cash contribution to TRF must be aware they will have to send an additional 5%.
