The project is intended to develop a twenty acre piece of land into a fruit farm to employee directly fifty youth in the growing of mangoes, oranges and guavas. The farmland is owned on a cooperative basis and the youths will be responsible for the development, management and marketing of the farm produce, selling their products to the local and national markets including supermarkets, restaurants, hotels, fruit shops and fruit processing factories.
The seed grant will be used to purchase initial seedlings, provide agricultural training and purchase equipment, tools, provide a borehole and a tractor.
The high unemployment rate of over 75% among Uganda youths is a cause of great concern for leaders of all walks of life. The Rotary club of Mityana has initiate efforts to assist young people learn agricultural skills which should help them provide for their families and contribute to community development.
