To set up a new facility of Blood Bank while increasing current capacity 2.5 times to collect and process 30,000bags of blood every year to cater to 1,000-bedded expanded multi-specialty hospital.To equip the blood bank with state of the art machines to process collected blood into required components for use of patients within and outside the hospital.
Need of the project:Deenanath Mangeshkar Multi-specialty Hospital (DMH), has increased its capacity 2.5 times to 1,000 beds, with growing need from the city of Pune with a population of around 4 million. Capacity of the blood bank has to keep pace with such expansion. Technology for processing blood into components has advanced over the last 15 years since the earlier blood bank was established. Hence, a new blood bank in new premises is planned to cater to these needs.

All the patients in the hospital admitted for surgeries or trauma treatment usually require blood to varying extent. Certain percentage of patients from economically weaker strata of the society are admitted and treated in the hospital free of cost. While the 'paying' patients will be charged to recover the processing costs and a little more, patients below poverty line will be cross-subsidized to offer blood components free of cost.
Schedule of Execution:

Detailed plan of setting up the new blood Bank has been prepared. It is expected that financial closure of this project will take place by February 2015. Equipment will be ordered during March-April 2015. Deliveries and installation of the equipment will take place during June-July 2015. The Blood Bank will be operational by August 2015.
Planning, installation and implementation of the project will be monitored and reviewed by the Execution Committee of the Club. Further operation of the Bank will be reviewed on quarterly basis by a Standing Committee of the Club, which would be reformulated every year. The Committee will report to the Board on quarterly basis.
RCPP and DMH will work out targets for collection of blood and methods of measurement of performance, including benefits to weaker sections of the society.

An area of around 500 sq. m. is earmarked in the new premises of DMH with required infrastructure.While utilizing the existing equipment, following new equipment, estimated to cost around Rs. 6 million ($ 100,000) will be installed to take the capacity to process 30,000 bags of blood every year.

Description of the project:

DMH will provide required premises, infrastructure and furniture at its own cost. DMH will operate the facility with its own technicians, doctors and administrative staff with its own funds.DMH will maintain the equipment at its own cost for minimum 7 years.
Rotary Club of Pune Pride(RCPP)- Brief Credentials:

RCPP is part of Rotary International district 3131. With in-depth local knowledge, RCPP has experience in implementing community service projects directly benefiting deprived sections of society. RCPP has, over the last three years,executed following Global Grant projects amounting to $120,000, within schedule & budget, namely
- 'Pediatric Development Centre' for children born with challenges,
- 'Human Milk Bank' and
- 'Mobile Blood Collection Van'.
Club's Resources:
• A committee of 5 members of RCPP will be set up to plan, monitor, organize and execute this project.The committee will conduct quarterly review of functioning of the Bank.
• The Club will raise its share of funds required for this project through its own members, well-wishers and sponsors.
Partner/s in the project:
- Deenanath Mangeshkar Multi-specialty Hospital, Pune, (dmhospital.org) with 1,000 beds, will be the implementation and operating partner of the project. It has several years of credible history in treating patients, both on charitable and commercial basis.
- DMH has an existing blood bank which was set up in the year 2001. The existing blood bank will be replaced with new, expanded & modernized Blood Bank in premises.
- DMH offers free medical service to around 6,000 Outpatients & 3,000 Inpatients a year.
