The project intends to provide young people especially the youths with metal fabrication and brick making skills. The skills include making of metallic doors, windows, burgular proofing equipment, metal railings, moveable containers etc. These skills will go a long way in reducing the high unemployment rates currently ravaging the young people at a rate between 75-80% of the population.
The high unemployment rate is a result of several factors including highly theoretical education which does not prepare the youths for employment. The skewed policies at both national and regional levels which do not provide alternative skills to young people in the world of work and the biting poverty in most areas have all contributed to huge masses of young people who can neither find employment or are employeable. Consequently, the project intends to;
1) Provide alternative skills in metal fabrication and brickmaking to school gradutes as
well as school leavers.
2) Provide jobs to at least thirty youths at the centre.
3) Provide a model for sustainable technical education and training
4) Link the trainnes to potential employers or help them set up small scale businesses in
metal and brick products
5) Provide the local population high quality building materials in form of
bricks,windows,steel doors,containers, guard railings, door frames, water tanks etc.
6) Check the ever increasing income gap within the population.
The project intends to source for equipment and tools locally and from overseas
manufacturers. The equipment includes welding machines, metal cutting machines, power
supply systems, brick making machines(hyraform type)and accessories.
The youths will be offered training on all aspects of machines but will eventually
graduate in a skill of their choice. The programme will be supported by the Rotary Club
of Mityana and a local organisation ''Mityana Development Agency''a local Community
based organisation engaged in empowering youths by providing them with alternative
skills in employment. The centre will be able to train atleast 50 youths every year.
