The Corporation of Chennai runs Community Colleges in various parts of the city to provide skill development vocational courses aimed at employment / entrepreneurship opportunities to the young residents of the city. This programme helps school drop out and people from weaker section of the society.
Our club, Rotary Club of Madras South is signing a 3-year MoU with the Corporation of Chennai to sponsor the Community College at Pursaavakkam. At this centre, tailoring and spoken English courses are taught.
The project would train more than 1000 young persons in Chennai city, over the 3 year period.
The Community college requires the following:
a) Sewing machines: 20 nos. @ Rs. 13,000 each - Rs. 260,000
b) 5 Teachers: Rs. 15,000 pm for 3 year - Rs.27,00,000
c) Learning Materials and other support costs - Rs.90,000
Total cost for 3 years - Rs.30,50,000 = USD 51000
