We are pleased to address you, in order to apply for your humanitarian aid in the purchase of hospital equipment of utmost importance to improve the care of small patients who attend the Maria Cecilia Foundation supporting oncologic children, providing free comprehensive care to children from low-and moderate-resources. Working within a municipal hospital, altogether, but independent of it. In charge of professional fees, complexity studies, diagnostic methods and medications not covered by the Bank's drug, or when it does not comply in time and form, no child at their service delays the treatment due to lack of medication

They have a medical team of oncologists, hematologist, psycho Oncology pediatric and volunteers trained to address the various aspects that need a child with cancer and his family. Its objectives are always on improving care for the patient and his family. It is for this reason that we ask your help to achieve these three essential equipments for better care . We keep waiting for a favorable response. We remain grateful for your consideration.

EQUIPMENT DESCRIPTION

BLOOD CULTURES AUTOMATION

Equipment of automatic processing of blood cultures, great support for the bacteriology laboratory team as it reduces the time of detection of positive blood cultures, due to the continuous monitoring, that allows to detect bacterial growth in terms of hours.

MULTIPARAMETER METER

Allows to detect, process and deploy continuously the physiological patient parameters, allowing nurses and doctors the best medical assessments and appropriate decisions in diagnosis and treatment.

MICROSCOPIC

Essential in Hematology Oncology for diagnosis and monitoring of the patient. Used by specialists: Hematologist Pediatrician and Oncologist Pediatrician.

MARIA CECILIA FOUNDATION: SUPPORT OF ONCOLOGIC CHILD

Brief history: The Maria Cecilia Foundation supporting oncologic children was created by a group of parents with children who suffered this disease, joined and finally the Foundation was created in 1991, and established in the year 1995 holds the service of Hematology - Pediatric Oncology, inside the Hospital Materno Infantil de San Isidro. Their patients receive integral and interdisciplinary service to obtain the best results in reference to treatment and survival.

It's important to note that they are the first and only pediatric Foundation of the Argentine Republic, to create and sustain a service of Hematology-Oncology children, completely free, within a municipal public hospital. The Foundation takes care of disposable materials used in diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, fees of professionals, the purchase of implantable catheters and the acquisition of non-covered drugs. It is committed to the care of children with limited resources , most of them without social coverage, and gives them a treatment comparable to children of first world countries or social coverage.

Equal treatment implies: children with limited resources

• Complementary tests done at the time that corresponds.

• Begin treatment promptly seeking the medication at the right time.

• Implantable catheter placed to ALL children, improving their quality of life.

• Provide psychological, clinical support with signs and symptoms control from the beginning of treatment complying with the requirements of the SIOP Psychosocial Area (Société Internationale D'Oncologie Pédiatrique).

OBJECTIVE

Spread the knowledge of the problems of child cancer and the real and concrete possibilities they have to survive with quality similar to the others, if they have proper timely medication.

HOW WE DO IT?

The hematologic and oncologic patient care is carried out by:

1) The selfless action of volunteers who are responsible for:

• The reception of the child and its family,

• Emotionally accompany and support

• A volunteer who travels in search of cancer drugs,

• Supply of non-covered medications

• Monthly celebration of birthdays,

• Organization of recreational events, such as for example trips to the Zoo, theatre, etc.

• Games room with qualified staff,

• Project sponsorship, allowing to help parents with transportation and better nutrition during treatment,

• Encourage the active participation of the family in the treatment: from parents to carry out the necessary procedures for medication and studies, as of the patient in terms of cooperation and acceptance of treatment.

• Encourage the establishment of solidarity links between parents, which impact on a better management of the treatment,

• Working with the family group to understand the disease and the importance of participation to treatment,

• Provide the right resources to the patient and his family: informative educational materials, parent meetings, support for the procedures

• Management before municipal, provincial and national authorities to improve the quality of life of more needy patients.

The 80% of cases of leukemia diagnosed and treated in time are recovered

That is our mission, and we need the support and the commitment of all able to fulfill it.

2) Teaching: the Foundation organizes:

• Training of volunteers,

• Workshops for Clinical Pediatricians on clinical management of children with cancer,

• Update days for oncologists pediatricians

• Participation in the touring group of Pediatric Oncology, arriving as well to different parts of the country.
