Our major objective is to provide training on language skills, teaching methods and elearning concepts to rural educators in China. The ultimate goal is that modern teaching techniques will improve the quality of education in the underprivileged parts of China so that students there can access higher education in the future and eventually break out of the poverty cycle. The project provides much-needed training to these educators in impoverished regions of China who lack the resources to learn about language and teaching from the outside world. Three vocational volunteer teams of US educators will go to China for a period of two weeks to provide the training.
1) The grant will fund a VTT project, which provides training to Chinese educators in impoverished regions, focusing on the following areas: English language skills, teaching methods, and elearning concepts.
2) As part of the funding, volunteers of Rotarians and US educators will go to China for a period of two weeks. Each team would consist of one Rotarian, preferably an educator with experience in English teaching and school administration, plus two English Language Development teachers. The three teams will conduct the training at three different training centers provided by local Chinese universities. The training centers are located in Northeast, Northwest, and Southwest China, with proximity to underdeveloped regions so that the rural educators can travel with relative ease.
3) To further develop and sustain the results from the training teams, eLearning equipment will be provided at three rural schools in the remote impoverished regions of China. E-learning will support English teaching and basic education in daily teaching.
Approximate 270 teacher-trainees will benefit directly from the grant and indirectly at least 14,000 school children attending the poorest rural schools in multiple provinces in China will benefit from improved education. The 270 teacher-trainees come from rural schools all over the various provinces of China.
