The regional Food Bank of the Algarve presently serves 23,000 people each month, via 110 charitable institutions in the Algarve region of Southern Portugal. In 2013, via a Rotary Foundation Matching Grant, a refrigerated truck was purchased to increase the Food Bank's ability to handle perishable food. A second warehouse has been opened in Portimão, approximately 50 miles west of the headquarters in Faro. Annual food distribution has now increased from 400 tons in 2011 to 1,750 tons in 2014, with 500 tons handled in the Portimão facility. The refrigerated truck is used to collect donations and transfer food between warehouses.
At present, the Portimão warehouse does not have an electric forklift, meaning that all deliveries must be manually unloaded, which is a waste of many man hours. Some donations are cancelled when the donor realizes that his truck will be delayed by time-consuming manual labor.
Rotary E-Club Porches International plans to purchase an electric forklift with a lifting capacity of 1,800 kilos at a price of 26,445, roughly $28,000.

Dropped
This project has been "Dropped". Check the history log entries to see why it was dropped.
Note: as of July 1, 2015 there is a 5% additional support fee for cash contributions. This fee does not appear in the financials above because it does not apply if the funds are sent directly to the project account (without going through TRF, and therefore without Paul Harris credit). Clubs sending their cash contribution to TRF must be aware they will have to send an additional 5%.
