Mal-nutrition has been identified as major issue of among the children of rural marginalized areas. Although the causes of malnutrition are multi functional, recent findings [triposha report 2008] shows clearly that the outcome was due to the reasons such as Low income or poverty, improper food consumption practices, lack of attempts to implement effective group activities to provide knowledge on nutrition and health, gaps in the monitoring, ineffective distribution process of subsidized government supplementary food schemes.
We expect to address those issues through innovative manner introducing a highly nutritious food in the form of acceptable quality/tasty biscuit as a supplementary by utilization of affordable raw materials in their environment such as rice, murunga leaves/pods which is highly nutritious and provide opportunities for villages to become suppliers that would give them an additional income. As a part of changing the attitudinal and behavioral patterns, we expect create awareness on nutritious values of above products and educate on cereal preparation strategies and technology through establishing a participatory network to share good practices with others.
