Project Description

Region: Asia

Country: India

Location: Tirupur Dist , Tamilnadu

Total Budget: $48,240

Area of Focus: Basic education and literacy

The main objective of this Global Grant project is to implement e-learning and smart class room facilities for school children in identified schools of Tirupur district rural areas. We all know how helpful it is to remember something that is taught visually to us rather than the one that is read through pages after pages. The concept of digital class education is indeed a blessing to the students of the 21st Century. Digital classes and smart class rooms use all interactive modules like videos and presentations and these visually attractive methods of teaching becomes appealing to students who are already struggling with the traditional method of teaching in a classroom. There is the advantage of utilizing much of the time wasted earlier in drawing or preparing diagrams on board. Smart boards and computers have all these information in memory and can be presented during the time of class lectures and thus, the time saved can be used in more important things. This facilities will provide better education to continue education and their education will make them to stand on their own both the teachers and the children.

Students remember better when things taught to them visually rather than read through pages after pages. Teachers should spend time in training the students visually by drawing and preparing charts and diagrams to make them more understandable on the subjects. This conventional education system available today in most of the schools are more on trainer dependent and such involvement by the trainers towards the students are rare. Some students and teachers have problems with chalk dust and they tend to suffer from allergic reactions.

Basic Literacy and Education development is the need area identified. A team from our club members will visit the needy schools and verify the needs and approve the required needs and then request is forwarded to our club.

The proposed Smart Classes and e-learning centers use all interactive modules like videos and presentations and these visually attractive methods of teaching becomes appealing to students who are already struggling with the traditional method of teaching in a classroom. In fact, smart classes are almost like watching movies as sometimes, animated visuals are used to teach a point. This kind of visual is both eye-catching and young students can easily relate with them. This is because the audio-visual senses of students are targeted and it helps the students store the information fast and more effectively. And then, there is the advantage of utilizing much of the time wasted earlier in drawing or preparing diagrams on board by the teachers. Smart boards and computers have all these information in memory and can be presented during the time of class lectures and thus, the time saved can be used in more important things. The supplier's will provide software content for all the subjects from Grade I to X for the students to learn their subjects. This facilities will provide better education to continue education and their education will make them to stand on their own both the teachers and the children.

The proposed Smart Classes and e-learning centers are completely digital also saves the teachers and students from allergic reactions due to chalk and dust and won't let them develop any health issues later. This they provide a conducive and comfortable learning environment for the students to learn and the teachers to train.

This project also has a training component where complete On Site training will be provided for the teachers handling of computers and digital board. The teachers will also be trained on preparing software content using the digital board and computers. Initially the teachers can train the students on the subjects using the digital Classrooms with the software content provided to them, and in later case with the adequate training given to them, they will be capable of developing their own content according to their local requirements.

Though these schools have trainers to teach but the quality of trainers are not unique and standard on various reasons. These schools do not get much aid from Government in providing the latest technological equipment's and modernized digital audio-visual multi model teaching methodology as Rotary is playing an important role in improving the literacy rate in this area. At present, the needs are being addressed with local resources but due to lack of financial support, the quality of service is very poor. The local resources and NGOs along experts in this area could be used for better implementing the project. The equipment supplied are bundled with 3 years free maintenance which confirms the sustainability.

In our experience with the previous projects, we have seen a marked improvement in attendance. Learning conditions have dramatically improved and disease has lowered. The surrounding community and households have also benefited by the students sharing the lessons and habits at home. This has also increased parent and community involvement in the neighborhood schools.

This Global Grant will benefit approximately 20000+ students in various schools in TIRUPUR DISTRICT RURAL AREAS.

ONE SET COSTS INR 1,23,500 , FOR 25 SETS INR 30,87,500 ( $48240 @ $1 = INR 64).
