1. Describe the benefiting community including its location, using any relevant geographic and demographic information (Please be as specific as possible). If the activity is a scholarship, enter "N/A". jAWAR TALUKA/district Thane is about 180 km from Mumbai city the financial capital of India.It comprises of 272 hamlets called PADA".Its inhabitants are people from the lowest strata of society called as SC /ST or Schedule tribe /cast.They are dependent on farming during the season time and in off season they migrate to cities looking for work in construction industry as labourers . In villages they live on hilllocks devoid of direct pipe water supply .Government has dug wells deep in the valley .There are 100 such villages which need need the direct water supply .The women ,children are assigned the task of ferrying water on their heads two /three times in a day .The wells are not protected resulting in contamination . The heavy loads on their,walking 1000 m approx in each round trip ,leaves little time to chidren to study ,womwn to engae in other fruitfuyl activites like sewing etc . The need is to supply water to the hilllock in a tank with filteration plant,and then to cluster of houses. 2. What community needs have been identified? Need is to supply direct piped water to villagers and remove the ardous task of daily carrying on their heads leading to health issues .A filteration plants provides clean water saving villagers from water borne diseases. The women and chidren will be healhty ,devote time to education and other value added activities . 3. See above The village women ,children carry water 2,3 round trips leaving hardly any time for other activities /studies. The open wells lead to water borne diseases .A filteration plant at the storage location with ensure clean water . 1. Local villagers will support in project activities ,a local NGO will support .The maintenance will be provided by OEM during then guarantee period. The project will benefit a population of 3836.The women and children will be free from drudgery of lifting water on heads and devote time in education, better health free from diseases. A five memember committee is formed in each village to look after the functioning the water supply .Each house contributes a minimum Rs 50 per month towards maintenance of the system. Some villages contribute more than the minimum amount.Maintenance within the guarantee period is carried by the OEM. Small repairs are carried out by the village teams.Major repairs are taken care of by experts from nearby city of PUNE . The Rotarians visit the village intervals keep track of the projects . . 4. Has the benefiting community(ies) confirmed that it would like the activity(ies) to take place? Yes the villagers of the selected 10 villages have confirmed partcipation in this project. They have live example of 3 such projects running successfully since half a decade . It is the financial implications restricting execution in all villages . This is first time a massive job in 10 villages will be taken up simultaneously . Next year more villages will be covered. 5. Proposed Start Date: 30-AUG-2016 6. 2. Please describe how the activity(ies) will address the goal(s) of the area(s) or focus. The project is about supplying water direct to doorsteps of the huts . At present the wells are unprotected leading to water borne diseases. Suitable protection will be provided to wells and a filtration plant will provide clean water for consumption of villagers. 1. What will be the immediate and long-term outcomes of the activity(ies). The women and children in villages will be free from drudgery of carrying heavy loads on their heads on a daily basis . Longterm it will result in better health,time for studies and other meaningful activities.Harmony in family. More time to farming . 2. Explain how all involved parties will act to ensure the sustainability of the activity(ies) and/or outcomes.
