The Indigenous council, the governing municipality and the local town leaders were all involved in appropriating the parcel of land to be used as the site of the constructed wetlands. Humanitarian Projects - Project Implementation Summarize each step of your project's implementation.
Will you work in coordination with any related initiative in the community? If yes, briefly describe the other initiatives and how they relate to this project. If no, please explain. Are local initiatives not addressing these needs? Or, if they are, why did you decide not to work with them? The local community intends to start a water bottling facility near the site of the well we helped to construct 2 years ago. Please describe the training, community outreach, or educational programs this project will include. Aipromades conducted classes on land use and the environment including recycling, proper use of fertilizers and detergents. CIESAS conducted classes on environmental awareness and specifically on wastewater management systems and design How were these needs identified? These needs were identified on our initial needs assessment when the well project was initiated. This was their second priority and with the increased access to fresh water the need for a septic system was abundantly evident What incentives (for example, monetary compensation, awards, certification, or publicity), will you use, if any, to encourage community members to participate in the project? Employment in all phases of the construction. List any community members or community groups that will oversee the continuation of the project after grant-funded activities conclude. The municipality of Poncitlán has offered to pump the septic system every 5 years or when needed. The members of the community want to start a bottled water cooperative and sell to the neighboring communities. When they do their intent is to pay for any changes in flora necessary and other maintenance. The system is entirely gravity fed with no moving parts very little maintenance. Budget Will you purchase budget items from local vendors? Explain the process you used to select vendors. Local venders will be used entirely except for some design help from Wastewater Gardens Inc. We have looked for recommendations from people in the community and from the experienced partners with who we are working. We also solicited help from Rotarian with experience in engineering. Did you use competitive bidding to select vendors? If no, please explain. We have two engineering companies bidding for the job currently and if we find a third we will give the the RFP. Please provide an operating and maintenance plan for the equipment or materials you purchased for this project. This plan should include who will operate and maintain the equipment and how they will be trained. There really is no equipment to maintain. The septic tank gets pumped by the municipality and the town will budget periodic weeding expenses from their bottled water sales. Describe how community members will maintain the equipment after grant-funded activities conclude. Will replacement parts be available? Explained above If the grant will be used to purchase any equipment, will the equipment be culturally appropriate and conform to the community's technology standards? If yes, please explain. If no, describe how the project team will help community members adopt the technology. No new technology, no real equipment After the project is completed, who will own the items purchased by grant funds? No items may be owned by a Rotary district, club, or member. All property and materials belong to the local community Funding Have you found a local funding source to sustain project outcomes for the long term? If yes, please describe this funding source. Self generated revenue by the town's filtered water project. Will any part of the project generate income for ongoing project funding? If yes, please explain. no Is your economic and community development activity a microcredit project? If yes, upload your microcredit supplement file. Not a microcredit project |
