If the activity is a scholarship, enter "N/A". Nelligudda village in Bidadi Hobli is situated 30 kms from Bangalore city. There a cluster of small villages spread over 80 sq.kms of area with approx. population of 25,000. About 20 years ago this village was "ruled" by money lenders and the people were mostly bonded laborers'. Over the years with sustained efforts by MYRADA (NGO), Rotary Bangalore Cantonment (RBC) and the local government the living standards, education an health has improved and today the village slowly becoming self sufficient. 2. Self employment through vocational training & Micro credit 3. How are these needs currently being addressed with local resources and/or government agencies, NGOs, etc.? If the activity is a scholarship, enter "N/A". 1. Sanitation & Water - Government has provide water facilities to many villages. RBC will address he needs of the school children. 2. Health - Government hospital has been set-up but grossly inadequate to meet the needs. RBC will provide health facilities in collaboration with a private hospital & medical college 3. Women empowerment - RBC has provided over the years vocational training and Micro credit through a Matching Grant project (successfully closed) 4. Self employment through vocational training & Micro credit - Continue this through this new Global Grant project 1. Summarize the proposed activity(ies) in 250 words or less, including the need it will address, the intended beneficiary(ies), and the potential benefits to the community. This project provides funding for the economic upbringing and community development of the rural villages of Bidadhi near Bangalore, Karnataka state in the following areas. 1. Provide vocational training in Tailoring & Candle making. 2. Purchase Sewing machines and candle making tools to provide hands-on training and train them to be self-employed 3. Set up solar energy units for power generation at Rotary Cantonment Centenary building 4. Set up Bore well and water storage facility at the Rotary Cantonment Centenary building 5. Provide toilet accessories at the Rotary Cantonment Centenary building 6. Provide Micro credit for local women Self Help Groups 7. Provide Water filters for drinking water to 15 schools located in the village cluster. This project meets the following needs of the local community - Economic & Community development & Health 1. Training of women for self employment leading to income generation and women empowerment 2. Micro credit to self help groups mainly for purchase of Cows. Sale of milk provides reasonable monthly income 3. The Rotary Cantonment Centenary building after the addition of the facilities will serve as local outreach health center (in association with a local private hospital with whom RBC has signed a MOU). 4. Drinking water facility for school children All these are continuous sustainable projects. It is estimated that this project will take about 8-10 months to complete. 2. We propose to utilize services of Goodwill International, a vocational training institute located in Bangalore. Raja Rajeshwari Medical College & Hospital, Bangalore for health care. 3. All the activities planned will be managed by the Women from the community. Various Self Help Groups will manage each activity and take up the responsibility of sustaining and running the same. They have a proven track record and doing this. 4. Has the benefiting community(ies) confirmed that it would like the activity(ies) to take place? Yes. Disease prevention and treatment - Rural Health Centre in association with Raja Rajeshwari College & Hospital Water & Sanitation - Water storage & Sanitation facility at the Rotary Centennial building. Drinking water facilities to Economic and community development - Voational training and Micro-credit will provide sustainable income generation. 1. What will be the immediate and long-term outcomes of the activity(ies). Immediate: Water & sanitation Long term: Self employment, income generation and women empowerment. Health and disease prevention. 2. Explain how all involved parties will act to ensure the sustainability of the activity(ies) and/or outcomes. RBC has been involved in this village development now for 20 years. SO our efforts and participation is ongoing and as a matter of policy our Rotary club is committed to this project.
