Section B: Community Needs

1. Describe the benefiting community including its location, using any relevant geographic and demographic information (Please be as specific as possible). If the activity is a scholarship, enter "N/A".

Nearly 11,000,000 people die every year. Considering the population ratio and the prevailing customs 6.6 million trees are felled to cremate the dead per year. That is nearly 3.0 Million M.T. of wood costing Rs. 6.0 billion or a forest cover of 5500 hectares of land is destroyed. As against this the tree plantation ratio is very low & will require almost a century to get back that forest cover back again provided there is no further depletion.

After careful study of Hindu cremations and its adverse effects on environment we propose to have a Cremator working on diesel or Natural Gas. It is simple, cheap, clean and eco-friendly process and is easy to operate. So far, there are 45+ Diesel Cremators including PNG cremator have been installed with very positive response & more than 250,000 Cremations have been successfully carried out in these Cremators

2. What community needs have been identified? If the activity is a scholarship, enter "N/A".

The cremator we intend to install at Amravati is LPG Fired Cremator & is clean and hygienic cremation process. It meets the most stringent international pollution, environmental health and air emission regulations. The operating system is simplified so that no special operational skills are required. A local NGO HINDU SAMSHAN SANSTHA, AMRAVATI is making available all infrastructure required to operate this cremator LPG / CNG is readily available in our town. We at Rotary Club of Amravati Midtown hope to contribute for this cremator in a small way by fund raising & gifting the same with help of The Rotary Foundation & its Matching Grant.

3. How are these needs currently being addressed with local resources and/or government agencies, NGOs, etc.? If the activity is a scholarship, enter "N/A".

Wood & Diseal cremator is use to cremate the dead and no Gas Cremators are there. We intended to have it made under this Global Grant
