1. Describe the benefiting community including its location, using any relevant geographic and demographic information (Please be as specific as possible). If the activity is a scholarship, enter "N/A". The benefiting community is the village of La Majada. La Majada is in the San Jacinto Municipality, located in the department of Chiquimula, Guatemala. The village is located north of the municipal seat of San Jacinto. La Majada is adjacent to the North with Ticanlú village and village Santa Elena; village El Escalón South; westward Los Pastores villages; and eastward, Plan del Conejo. The topography general of the community is very broken, with small hollows, the center of the community is located with the schools pre primary and primary, the chapel at latitude of 14 ° 42' 4.07 "; and to a length of 89 ° 30' 11.33". The community of La Majada has 275 houses with total population is 1,375. 2. What community needs have been identified? If the activity is a scholarship, enter "N/A". The water sources are inadequate and clean water must be transported to houses, or unclean water is used if available. 1. Summarize the proposed activity(ies) in 250 words or less, including the need it will address, the intended beneficiary(ies), and the potential benefits to the community. A pump will be installed at a current well, which has already been tested for flow rates. A water catchment tank will be build at an elevation above the community. New piping will be built to a newly constructed catchment tank. At the catchment tank, water can be chlorinated, and then distribution lines will be installed to the various residents in the community via gravity. 2. The community has already been involved in the planning phase. The community will provide manual labor for the project, both in building the catchment tank and trenching for the distribution lines. The community will establish a water committee within its Consejos Comunitarios de Desarrollo Urbano y Rural (COCODE) They will be in charge of chlorination of water and giving periodic samples to municipality for testing, and maintenance of distribution lines. 4. 2. Please describe how the activity(ies) will address the goal(s) of the area(s) or focus. This project will provide clean water to the community. 1. What will be the immediate and long-term outcomes of the activity(ies). The immediate outcome is that adequate and clean water will be available for the community. The long term outcome will be a better standard of living for the local community with better health for adults and children. 2. Explain how all involved parties will act to ensure the sustainability of the activity(ies) and/or outcomes. The local community has been involved in development the project, will be involved in the completion of the project and will have ownership of the long term success of the project. The water committee, which consists of local community members, will maintain the chlorination levels and monitor the water quality. The committee will also be responsible for maintenance as needed and collection of fees to insure the local term sustainability. The municipality will provide water testing to ensure water quality ongoing. The municipality will continue to check on project to ensure long term success. The Rotarios Chiquimula will visit the community periodically, talk to the water committee and verify clean water continues to flow. The Rotary Club of Fort Collins will visit the local community on their trips in subsequent years to monitor the status of the water system.
