The geographical area of the District 3180 has considerable hilly terrain, dense forest and a narrow coastal belt. Consequently the infrastructure development in some of these areas is inadequate. The roads are bad and the schools are at a considerable distance from the villages where most of the people of rural India stay. Further due to poverty, most of the children have to walk barefoot the long distance to the schools. According to an estimation more than 3,00,000 students of primary school aged between 5 - 12 years, are there in this district who are going to school with bare foot. To help them our DGE Rtn Krishna Shetty planning a Dist project " Rotary Child Foot Care Project". Under this project we are planning to give footwear to at least 100 children per school and will be covering at least 200 schools. Each footwear will costs $1.22. The total cost of the project will be around $24,400. The project will be completed by March 2009 if any club supports this program. |
