Micro Credit for the Poor
$20,000
It goes without saying that in order to combat extreme poverty, improved access to micro credit is essential to encourage and empower the poor to engage in small scale businesses and to cultivate the habit of saving for the future. In Enugu State, Nigeria the global problem of eradicating extreme poverty appear to be exacerbated by the inability of the rural and urban poor, especially women and people living with disabilities to provide the collateral for loans usually demanded by the formal financial sector. The grant budget will be used to establish a fund, which fund will be used to provide interest-free micro credit, on revolving basis to the rural and urban poor, especially women and people living with disabilities in Enugu State thereby alleviating the constrain of acceptable collaterals among the project target group. It will also be used to provide training for the recipients to enable them to succeed in their endeavour. The project will be implemented by Hey-Day (Uzo-Uwani) Farmers’ Multi-Purpose Co-operative Society Limited, an Enugu based not-for-profit, community based organization (CBO), under the close monitoring and supervision of the Rotary Club of Enugu City Layout. |
